Why I do this:
I’m a coach. Among the clients I coach are business leaders. Corporations have been vilified since the housing collapse of 2008, the economic bailout, outrage over CEO bonuses and CEO pay that is 300 times (or more) that of the worker, and the amazing amounts of money pouring into our elections when the Supreme Court in the Citizen United v. the Federal Election Commission decided that money could be speech. On the recent 3rd anniversary of the Supreme Court decision there were 75 cities asking their state legislatures through rallies to amend the Constitution and curb corporate power. Eleven states have already officially petitioned Congress. [read more]

Dear Central Texas TUTA Team
I noticed that our team’s energy has flattened since the close of the Texas legislative session which, as expected, did not produce the result we eventually will…to put Texas into the column of the now almost half of the required states who are calling for a constitutional amendment. Please acknowledge receipt of this email and at what level, if at all, you would like to keep participating in the TUTA project (Texans United to Amend). Please don’t let NO communication be your communication.
1. Active participant (We’ll work on local government to call for the state to support the amendment)
2. Respond to request for actions only (contact legislators, come to a meeting with legislators, etc.)
3. Stay on the side lines but keep informed (receive e-mails)
4. No participation: Remove me from emails
I feel strongly that direct action will keep our own commitment alive. Here’s an opportunity Joe and I are taking to express our commitment to environmental and social justice. This action will be crucial to build pressure on the Obama Administration as it nears a decision on Keystone XL pipeline construction. While it doesn’t come from the United to Amend movement, it’s clear that we’re calling the corporations to account, letting them know not to underestimate the power of the people to speak truth to corrupt power.
We are attending the Houston Rally described here on September 16. This is for those of you who long for the inspired, passionate action of the 60ties and whose schedule can be freed up. Some of us will be risking arrest (me for example). arrest Others will be there to support those of us who are risking arrest. Here’s the info you need to make a decision as well as the event link to let them know you’re coming. http://act.credoaction.com/event/kxl_pledge_action_attend/2962 . We can arrange for car pooling.
Basically, if you are joining the support rally, you need to be in Market Square Park at 8:30 am. If you are risking arrest, you need to attend a legal briefing on Sunday at 2 at Bethal UCC Church or Monday morning at 7:30 am in the park (with the Sunday training the strongly recommended one).
