Houston Area Move To Amend (HAMTA)
(formerly Houston Area Against Corporate Personhood)
(Fort Bend, Harris, Montgomery, Waller counties)

Why I'm a TUTA'er: For some reason, even as a child, I never liked corporations and knew I'd never work for one. I could never understand why one would work to make money for someone else. It just didn't seem right - it would mean accepting an inequality in worth and it wasn't for me.
And, personhood? ....don't even get me started!
HAACP was founded in Houston, Texas, as a Partner Affiliate of Move To Amend. It had its first meeting in June 2012, and joined TUTA that November. In June 2013, HAACP changed its name to Houston Area Move To Amend or HAMTA..
During Texas' 83rd Legislative Session HAACP worked for passage of three resolutions, SCR2, HCR21, and HJR94, all in support of a constitutional amendment stating that money is not speech and corporations should not have the constitutional rights granted to humans. HAACP participated in TUTA's Capitol Rally on January 19, 2013, and in Lobby Day, March 20. HAACP continues to work in the Houston area in educating the public on the effects of the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision and lobbying area city councils. Members also keep a strong interest in state-wide activities in preparation for the 84th Legislature starting in January 2015. |
