Voting is your right, and we want to make sure you have what you need to vote. Click here for the Best Little Voter Info Site in Texas.  Learn  everything  you  need  to  know  about  the  new  voter  ID  requirements,  how  to meet them and about   exemptions   for   people   with   disabilities.   If   you   have   a  problem  when  trying  to  get  a  voter  ID  Call 1-866-OUR-VOTE or 1-866-687-8683, and press '5'.

Our TUTA member in Lufkin has been studying the voter rolls and has made the following observations:
"The new Voter ID Laws in Texas will require every voter to have an ID with their name that matches the name on their Voter Registration Card. After checking some of the voter lists in my county I have noticed a few problems for potential voters.

First, in some cases, a woman will have her maiden name, as well as her married name listed on her Voter Registration Card. (example: Mary Johnson Smith) Usually, a woman will have her middle and married name on her ID (example: Mary Sue Smith). To avoid problems when voting, everyone should make sure that the name matches EXACTLY   on their ID and Voter Registration Card.

Second, some people have initials or nicknames listed on their Voter Registration Card. (example: W.B. Smith or Willie Smith) Usually, an ID will have your full name as it appears on your birth certificate (example: William Brian Smith).  To avoid problems when voting, everyone should make sure that the name matches EXACTLY on their ID and Voter Registration Card.

If in doubt, you should register to vote again using the name and information on the ID you expect to use when voting".

(The new law states that the name must be similar, it will be up to the election judge to determine what constitutes "similar.")

With   the   implementation  of  new Voter  ID  requirements,  voting   in Texas is now more complicated than ever  before.
Even    if    you   believe    you    are registered,  it  pays  to verify. Many voters  are being disenfranchised by the  new  laws.

There   are  new  ID   requirements. Don't   head  to  the   polls  without  knowing what type of  ID you need. The name on ID should match voter registration,    or    you    could    be prevented   from   voting.
