Houston Town Hall on Money and Politics
The American Bar Association (ABA) is holding its 2015 Midyear meeting in Houston, February 4-10. During this time the ABA Standing Committee on Election Law will sponsor a Town Hall on Money and Politics on Friday, 6 February from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm at the George R. Brown Convention Center and the Houston Area Move To Amend (HAMTA) organization has been invited to participate in the discussion.
This is an unprecedented opportunity to present to America’s legal establishment our fundamental abhorrence with the Supreme Court’s Citizen United decision as well as the Court’s actions bestowing constitutional rights to man-made entities like corporations.
We would like to see the room packed to the gills with Houstonians who believe that the vast amounts of money in elections and politics has corrupted our democracy. We are seeking not only attendees who want to voice their opinions but also volunteers who would like to pass out literature and obtain signatures in support of a petition stating that money is not speech and corporations aren’t people. Pre-registration by January 26 is required. Go to www.houstonmta.net for further information and links.
